Shona 03 by Jack7176
Shona 03
Some portrait work I did of one of the life models I've had the privilege of drawing over the last year or so. B, 3B and 5B mechanical pencils with a paper stump and small chamois for the shading. About 3 hours work.

Shona 02
This is Shona - a model I met at the Tuesday sessions run by ATYN at the Flying Duck pub in Glasgow. Shona started to do her own weekend sessions for people she knew and I popped along. The lighting was great and the surroundings comfortable. She even provided pizza for lunch!

Of all the pictures I did that day this was one of the best and is a pretty good likeness. It's the same pose as Shona 01 but from a different angle.

I used a B and 5B mechanical pencil (2mm) and a paper stick and small chamois for shading. The pose was for 30 minutes.

Flying Duck Life Drawing 080 by Jack7176
Flying Duck Life Drawing 080

Drawn in February 2015. The model is Sandra a really good model. Great poses, manages to keep still, excellent to draw.

This is a Tuesday evening at the Flying Duck pub in Glasgow where they run life drawing sessions for two hours. For more details visit:

www.ATYN.co.uk (All The Young Nudes).

There’s normally between 40 and 60 artists – mostly students – and three models. They seem to have one male and two female as a general rule. It’s great to see what other people do and I’ve seen some excellent art skills.

This is a 20 minute pose. I’m using a 2mm mechanical pencil (Rotring or Koh-I-Noor) normally a B and a 5B. I use a paper stick and small chamois for shading and I’ve also started trying out a Sepia or Blue wash.

There’s no better way to spend a Tuesday evening!

I'm not a journal person but I'll write a few notes here to introduce myself! I'm retired and I live in Scotland. As a teenager I used to draw then it all got forgotten as I got serious about life, got married, had a family, followed a career then eventually realised you should never get serious about life.

I've re-discovered drawing and I love it. I go to weekly life drawing sessions in Glasgow at a pub (yes a pub!). Have a look at atyn.co.uk/ for all the details and I've realised that I should have maintained my drawing habit. My pictures would be so much better now!! Anyway, better late than never!

I prefer drawing people with architecture as a close second. When I say 'people' I mean the female of the species. I hate drawing men! Please don't lecture me on classical statues and the Greeks or Romans. Men just don't cut it.

However, if you have any suggestions about improving my capabilities or subjects I could tackle then let me know!
